Thursday, 19th March, saw a range of employers, colleges, OWs and guest speakers deliver information on both post-16 and post-18 apprenticeships to 150 families, both from Wellingborough School and other local institutions.
This buzzing evening enabled students and parents to find out more about this route into further education and employment, with 85% stating that the evening had improved their understanding of apprenticeships and 100% of respondents stating that they are at least considering an apprenticeship as a potential option for their or their child’s future.
One parent stated that the event “was really helpful, positive and encouraging. It gave [my child] some clarity in what she could do going forward, where before she had been really unsure.”
The OW Panel was particularly popular, as it was “informative and honest”, and “you could hear the different experiences and the outcomes they had.”
Events like this are also an opportunity for our students to develop their networking skills and show themselves and the School in their best light to our community. Exhibitors universally recognised good or excellent engagement from students, stating they were:
“not afraid to ask questions and genuinely engaged” and “the level of interest in apprenticeships was really positive.”
Apprenticeships are just one of many future options for students, and this evening is one of many in our wider Careers Education programme, designed to equip all our students with skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning.
They can also request a 1:1 appointment to discuss their ideas, hopes, dreams and fears with our Head of Careers, Miss Hunt, by emailing careers@wellingboroughschool.org.
