The 2025 OW Summer Sports, compromising of Cricket and Hockey, was held on Friday 20th June. Both OW teams played against the School, playing fantastically in very hot weather. After the matches they enjoyed a BBQ and drinks whilst catching up with friends and staff.

Friday 20th June saw the annual OW v School hockey fixture. A strong OW team had been compiled but a few last minute drop-outs meant that 8 OW’s in total ventured back to take on the School XI. From a School perspective, this fixture provides a great opportunity for some of the younger pupils to experience ‘senior’ hockey for the first time ahead of September, as well as catching up with OW endeavours! With temperatures close to 30 degrees it was decided to play quarters to allow for additional fluids to be taken on board. A strong start from the School XI saw them take a 1-0 lead but the OW’s came back into the game well and by the end of quarter three held a 3-1 lead of their own. A late goal from the School XI set up a potentially tight finish but with less than a minute on the clock the OW’s were able to hold on for a deserving victory. After the game, out-going captain Mimi Eccleston (“fresh” off the plane from Zante that afternoon…!!) presented ‘The Mitchell Cup’ to 2023-24 captain Annie Burgess (24, W) before everyone headed for much deserved BBQ refreshments!

On Friday, the 1st XI had a fixture against the OWs. The latter elected to bat first, racking up 192/4 in their 20 overs. In reply, the 1st XI only managed 90/4 in their allotment of overs. OWs had a strong side out, and it was good to see continued progress from the boys, especially those in younger years. The event had many current and former students on The Grove and the result almost seemed secondary to feel good atmosphere of the evening.
