Choosing the Right School for You

We understand that choosing the right school can feel like a tough decision, which is why we want to help guide you through the process.

Whether it’s your child’s first steps into education or choosing where they will transition into senior school, these are significant moments in your life. The choice you make will help shape the person your child grows up to be.

Many parents tell us that how a school feels is just as important as what it offers on paper.

Mr B, a Year 2 parent, said:

“What makes Wellingborough School so unique is the genuine sense of community that surrounds everything it does. From the moment you step onto the school site, you feel the warmth, support, and pride shared by students and staff alike.”

With so many factors to consider, it may be beneficial to take a step back and consider what is most important to you and your child. Below are some helpful suggestions to support you in deciding which school is the right fit for your child.

Location of the School

The location of a school impacts far more than just travel time. It can affect how much sleep a child gets, how much time they have to eat breakfast, and how much opportunity they have to relax in the evening. Choosing a school closer to home can therefore help support a healthier daily routine.

Learn About the Curriculum

It is important to understand what subjects are available to your child, as different schools may offer slightly different options. While all schools teach core subjects such as English, Maths and the Sciences, they can vary in the range of additional subjects available, including Languages, Creative Arts or Design Technology.

Activities Outside of the Classroom

While academic achievement is the core of a school, learning beyond the classroom gives children the opportunity to develop new skills, build confidence and obtain valuable qualifications.

Co-curricular activities allow children to explore a wide range of interests, including dance, drama, music, sport, and challenges such as CCF or the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

Go to an Open Day

One of the best ways to gain a real understanding of how a school operates and what opportunities it can offer your child is to attend an Open Day.

Wellingborough School is hosting a Whole School Open Day on Saturday, 7th March, where visitors can explore our Nursery, Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form.

At a Wellingborough School Open Day, you’ll have the opportunity to meet either our Headmaster or Head of Prep, depending on your child’s intended year of entry. Our specialist teachers will also be available to share more information about their subjects and classes.

Guided by our school prefects, you’ll enjoy a tour of the school and its facilities, including our new Gateway Building.
