Head’s Welcome

Katharine Owen Head of Prep School

Head's welcome

As Head of Wellingborough Prep School, I am delighted to provide you with an insight into the fantastic activities and opportunities offered at the School. Whether this is your first experience of the School or if you have visited before, the ethos of the School is clear to see from our wonderful pupils and staff.

The following pages will give you a flavour of what to expect at the School, including the extensive range of opportunities available for pupils both inside and outside of the classroom.

However, nothing can match the experience of actually visiting, seeing and feeling for yourself the friendly atmosphere and enthusiasm for learning that I believe pervades from the moment your child joins us.

I would be delighted to show you round and provide an opportunity for you to meet my colleagues and our pupils.

Communication and language skills are given appropriate priority in the early years. Children are encouraged to speak clearly and to listen to stories to help them gain new vocabulary. Older pupils across the school use subject-specific terminology accurately.

Academic excellence

The philosophy behind the Prep School curriculum is to provide a balanced programme which gives a thorough grounding in the core subjects while offering the children a broad spectrum of experience in Language, Art and Design, Music and Drama, and Sports. We want our pupils to have a love of learning and a thirst for finding out new things.

Pastoral care

Children fulfil their potential when they are happy and confident and we look to promote this ethos in every day school life through our club system, close pastoral care and wellbeing services.

Learning development

Our Learning Development Team provides support and guidance to nurture pupils who experience difficulties in any aspect of their learning and helps build their confidence and self-esteem, and through appropriate support, enables them to realise their full potential.

Pupils may receive support in class, in small groups or on a one to one basis as required. Specialist support staff and subject teachers work together to ensure the support is targeted and specific, and Learning Development also keep parents up to date on the progress being made and encourage communication and the sharing of ideas through meetings, email and telephone contact.

Beyond the classroom

Pupils at Wellingborough Prep enjoy a wide range of co-curricular activities during and after the school day, from Art, Chess and Cookery to Archery, Lego, and Mindfulness.
