Head's welcome

At Wellingborough School, education is about far more than academic success—it’s about helping young people discover who they are and who they can become. In the Senior School, we nurture individuality, spark curiosity, and support pupils as they grow in confidence and character.

Founded in 1595, our school has a rich heritage, but our focus is firmly on the future. We prepare pupils not only with knowledge, but with the adaptability, resilience, and empathy needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Our values—excellence, independence, empathy, dynamism, and inclusivity—are woven into every aspect of school life. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, on stage, or through our vibrant co-curricular programme, pupils are encouraged to aim high and grow as individuals.

We are large enough to offer breadth and opportunity, yet small enough to know each pupil personally. That balance ensures every child is seen, supported, and inspired to flourish.

I warmly invite you to visit us and experience the energy, warmth, and ambition of our school community. When you meet our pupils and staff, you’ll understand what makes Wellingborough such a special place.

Pupils are well supported in their acquisition of new knowledge, skills and understanding. Lessons are well planned with a clear understanding of the aptitudes, needs and prior attainment of pupils.

Academic excellence

Quality learning and teaching enable pupils to take ownership of their future in the Senior School as they make decisions about their curriculum. Excellent facilities, such as the dedicated Art Building and the Music School, support pupil learning and enable dynamic teaching.

Pastoral care

Pastoral Care is central to our philosophy; at each level pupils have a safety net. The personal welfare of pupils revolves around our House system. This arrangement is unique in that almost no other co-educational Day School in the UK has a single-sex pastoral structure. Pupils testify to its success and the pride in one’s House is palpable.

Sports

At Wellingborough School we offer a wealth of sporting activities which form an integral part of school life. We strive to offer pupils every opportunity to enjoy sport and to experience success. Those who have the desire to excel and those who just wish to participate, benefit from expert coaching and positive sporting experiences.

Beyond the classroom

Our Co-Curricular programme blends inside the classroom with outside the classroom and is an extremely important part of the life and ethos of Wellingborough School. Pupils can choose from a wide variety of co-curricular activities, which aim to accommodate all abilities and most interests, at lunchtimes, after school and at weekends- so you can be sure to find something that suits you!
