My two children joined Wellingborough School at the start of the Summer term, my daughter in Year 4 and son in Year 2. We had moved from a lovely tiny village Primary School, as we felt that my daughter particularly needed a wider range of opportunities. Both socially, in terms of friendships, and academically.
From the first contact, the team at Wellingborough could not have been more helpful. The admissions team took the time to understand us as a family and particularly to address my concerns about moving the children to a new school. My husband and I had a private tour of the school and were able to see the amazing facilities on offer (we knew the children would particularly love the art and DT rooms), meet key staff and see what a normal school day was like. We were immediately impressed by how engaged and interactive the pupils were. They really wanted to show us their school and work and made us very welcome.
The next step was to take the children round, which we did on an Open Day. We were shown around by a Year 7 pupil who had been through the Prep School and was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Both kids absolutely loved it and, as predicted, were blown away by the art studio and DT facilities in the brand-new Gateway Building. The fantastic food on offer just served to ‘seal the deal’!
The actual joining process was very straightforward. Both children attended a taster day the week after the Open day, so they had the chance to experience the full school day and meet their peers, which really helped alleviate any anxieties about the change. After this, they couldn’t wait to start after the Easter break. As we were joining during the academic year, both class teachers ensured that we had access to timetables and all the other practical information we would need to ensure a smooth start.
The children have settled much more quickly than I anticipated, and after only half a term with the school, you’d never know they hadn’t been there for years! The other pupils have welcomed them, and they have both made lots of new friends. They love the Club system, which provides a sense of belonging and fosters healthy competition. Lessons are engaging, and my daughter is relishing the increased independence fostered in the Upper Prep, whilst my son is nurtured in the Lower Prep, ready to move on to Upper Prep in September.
My daughter has already been on a school trip to Sacrewell Farm, taken part in a charity bake-off and attended a two-night residential trip. My son has participated in a Lego Robotics coding session, a Lower Prep Sporting event, and a ‘Castles Day’. The next half term promises even more opportunities for fun.
I have watched both of them blossom since the move and am in no doubt that we have made the right decision for their futures.
