Headstart welcomed our Year 11 pupils back to school following their GCSE examinations, offering a valuable opportunity to experience life in the Sixth Form and explore the academic and enrichment opportunities available.
Over the course of three days, pupils sampled a range of lessons, helping them to confirm their subject choices ahead of beginning their A Level studies in September. The programme also provided time for both existing and new students to get to know one another and their teachers, supporting a smooth and confident transition into Sixth Form life.
Unfortunately, due to the intense heat and high UV levels, the planned visit to Box End has had to be rescheduled until September. However, with the water temperature likely to be warmer, this promises to be an even more enjoyable experience for students at the start of term.
Social opportunities remain an important part of the Headstart experience, and the after-school BBQ provided a relaxed setting for students to begin forming new friendships and strengthening existing ones.
Throughout the programme, students were introduced to the study skills essential for success at A Level. Mr Lowe and Mr Benest also delivered informative sessions on the opportunities available through the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, encouraging students to consider how they can enrich their Sixth Form experience beyond the classroom.
These first few days have provided a fantastic opportunity to get to know pupils individually, learn more about their interests, and understand the ambitions they hold for the future. I look forward to supporting them on their journey over the next two years.
We also look forward to welcoming our Year 10 pupils on Friday for a Sixth Form Experience Day, giving them an early insight into Sixth Form study and helping them to start thinking about their future pathways.
