Wellingborough School Activity Week 2026

Activity Week is always one of the highlights of the school calendar, and this year was no exception. From exciting overseas visits and outdoor adventure centres to demanding Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, pupils across the school spent the week embracing new experiences and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Held during the final week of the summer term, this year’s Activity Week programme offered a fantastic range of opportunities for pupils across the Senior School.

Year 7’s Adventure at Cuffley

Our Year 7 pupils spent four exciting days at Cuffley Camp, where they threw themselves into a wide variety of outdoor activities and team challenges.

The pupils participated in games around the campsite and a range of activities, including orienteering and laser tag. With beautiful sunshine throughout much of the trip, they made the most of the outdoors.

Year 8 Explore the Isle of Wight

Year 8 pupils enjoyed a memorable visit to the Isle of Wight, making the most of the island’s attractions and unique character.

During their stay, pupils visited the farm, explored the local arcades and enjoyed a range of activities across the island. The trip gave them the opportunity to try new experiences and make the most of their time away.

Year 9 visit How Stean Gorge

Our Year 9 pupils had an incredible week at How Stean Gorge, where they embraced a range of outdoor challenges and adventure activities.

Throughout the week, pupils took on a range of outdoor adventure activities, including rock climbing, caving, abseiling and high ropes challenges. Whether navigating obstacles, tackling steep climbs or soaring through the air on zip lines, the group embraced each activity with enthusiasm and determination.

Duke of Edinburgh Assessed Expeditions

Activity Week also saw pupils undertaking both their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh assessed expeditions. Year 10 pupils completed their Silver assessment, while Year 12 pupils took on the challenge of the Gold walking expedition in the Lake District.

Throughout the expeditions, the pupils demonstrated excellent teamwork, navigation skills and resilience, working together to overcome challenges. The Year 12 groups enjoyed walking through the stunning Ullswater area following a challenging mountain day, making the most of the glorious sunshine and spectacular scenery. Both expeditions provided valuable opportunities for pupils to develop independence, perseverance and leadership while progressing towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Year 10 Discover the Wonders of Rome

During Activity Week, our Year 10 pupils travelled to Rome, where they immersed themselves in the rich history and architecture of Italy’s capital.

Highlights from the trip included a fascinating walking tour of the city, taking in world-famous landmarks such as the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The pupils also visited the Vatican Museums, where they admired some of the world’s most celebrated artworks and sculptures.

The visit brought classroom learning to life and provided a valuable insight into one of Europe’s most historic cities.

Years 10- 13 Experience American Innovation in Houston, Texas

One of the school’s longest-distance trips saw pupils from Years 10–13 travel to Houston, Texas. Where pupils enjoyed an extraordinary range of experiences, including exploring the Space Center, attending an Astros baseball game, visiting the boardwalk and watching spectacular Fourth of July celebrations. They also toured a decommissioned oil rig, gaining a fascinating insight into an industry that has played a significant role in Texas’ history and economy.

The trip combined elements of science, technology, culture and history, providing pupils with a unique international perspective and many unforgettable experiences.

Year 12 Explore Budapest

A group of Year 12 pupils enjoyed an exciting cultural visit to Budapest, experiencing the history, culture and attractions of Hungary’s capital city.

The trip included a walking tour of the city, a visit to the House of Terror museum and the opportunity to sample Budapest’s famous chimney cakes. Pupils also relaxed in the renowned Széchenyi Thermal Baths, celebrated a birthday together and put their problem-solving skills to the test in a series of escape room challenges.

The visit offered pupils achnace to gain a deeper understanding of a fascinating European city.
