Wellingborough School RAF Cadets Compete at the Regional Air Squadron Trophy

On Sunday, 8th February, Mrs Seddon and Mr Woodward took a group of Wellingborough School’s RAF cadets to compete in the Regional Air Squadron Trophy at RAF Honington. This annual competition brings together cadet teams from across the region to participate in a series of challenging, skills‑based events designed to test teamwork, discipline, and practical expertise.

Although the team ideally required 13 cadets to qualify for the full competition, only 9 cadets were available on the day. However, this reduced number did nothing to diminish their determination.

The pupils approached every challenge with impressive focus and resilience, working together with maturity beyond their years. – Mrs Seddon

Despite being under strength, the team achieved a commendable 11th place out of 16, demonstrating strong capabilities across the board. Their most notable successes came in the First Aid and Cyber categories, where they secured 5th and 8th place, respectively. These results were made even more impressive by the fact that the team outperformed several well‑established schools both overall and in individual events.

The pupils who participated were Harrison E (team captain), Archie W, Lois S, Gaby M, Tyler R‑B, Ashley J, Edisona L, Gerry M, and Siyona M. Each of them represented Wellingborough School with pride, demonstrating outstanding commitment and conduct throughout the competition.

Special recognition goes to Gerry and Siyona, who only joined the RAF section in October as Year 9 pupils. Despite having had less training than many of their teammates, they attended every practice session, applied themselves wholeheartedly, and delivered excellent performances on the day.

This experience at RAF Honington was a fantastic achievement for all nine cadets, who proved that dedication and teamwork can overcome even the toughest challenges. They represented Wellingborough School with pride and demonstrated the high standards expected of our cadet force.

Well done to the entire team, and thank you to the staff who supported them along the way.
