Why Choose Wellingborough Sixth Form?

Choosing the right Sixth Form is one of the most important decisions a young person can make. It plays a key role in preparing them for life beyond school.

At Wellingborough Sixth Form, our students are encouraged to aim high and take confident steps towards their future. By combining academic challenge with opportunities beyond the classroom, Sixth Formers are prepared not only for their next destination but also for life beyond school.

Opportunities at Wellingborough Sixth Form

At Wellingborough Sixth Form, students benefit from a broad and ambitious A level curriculum, complemented by an extensive enrichment and co‑curricular programme designed to develop the whole person. Alongside academic study, Sixth Formers are encouraged to get involved in leadership roles, sporting competitions, creative pursuits, service projects and volunteering, allowing them to discover new interests and develop valuable life skills.

Beyond the classroom, students can take part in activities such as the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, debating, performance, music, and a wide range of clubs and societies. These opportunities help students build confidence, resilience and teamwork while pursuing their passions.

Independence

Within Sixth Form the students are treated as young adults and encouraged to take ownership of their learning and their future. Increased academic independence is balanced by strong pastoral support, helping students learn how to manage their time, set goals and take responsibility for their progress.

Students are given chances to lead the rest of the School, whether as School or House Prefects, peer mentors, team captains or by leading events and initiatives. These experiences foster confidence and strong communication skills.

Through self‑directed study in their dedicated Sixth Form areas, the students rely on themselves for independent study that they will face at university or the workplace in the future.

Outcomes After Wellingborough

At Wellingborough School, we are proud that the majority of our students go on to Higher Education, often taking places at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities and on highly competitive Degree Apprenticeship programmes. With expert guidance throughout Sixth Form, students receive tailored support with subject choices, personal statements, admissions tests and interviews.

For those aiming for the most competitive courses and destinations, the Aspire programme provides additional challenge and preparation, supporting applications to Oxbridge, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry and Law.

“Aspire has really helped give me an edge in my application for medicine. The extra admissions test practice was also useful, as well as extra help on personal statements. These helped me stand out when applying for my first-choice university.” – Ali, Year 13 pupil

However, if university isn’t your chosen destination, our dedicated careers guidance ensures students are fully informed about the alternatives, including apprenticeships and employment pathways.

A student’s journey with Wellingborough doesn’t end when you leave Sixth Form; it lasts a lifetime. As a former student, you become part of the Old Wellingburian (OW) community, a global network of over 4,000 alumni who are just as passionate about the School’s future as they are about its past.
