Year 3’s Day at Shuttleworth Museum

On Tuesday, 24th March, Year 3 visited Shuttleworth Museum as an Exit Point for their topic Gateways to the World. In the morning, the children explored the hangars and took part in several activities linked to their learning about Early Flights.

Activities included learning about the world’s oldest aeroplane, which is 114 years old; exploring the different landscapes involved in the first-ever flight to Australia; discovering how aircraft camouflage changed throughout history; trying on a range of pilot helmets; and sitting inside one of the world’s oldest passenger planes. After lunch, the children were given tickets and enjoyed a ride around the grounds on one of Shuttleworth’s veteran buses.

The day finished with an excellent STEM workshop, where the children built their own card aeroplanes and launched them across the room.
