Year 2 Takes to the Stage
This term, Year 2 have been working so hard on their performance of The Bee Musical. This involved all the children in Owls and Kingfishers, costumes, props, music and a lot of bee puns. Starting straight after half term with an empty stage, there was 20 very excited children who had been working so hard to memorise a lot of words. Gradually over the next few weeks a fantastic musical play emerged ready to be presented to all our families. The children worked so hard to learn their lines, make props and learn lots of great songs. The Year 2 corridor upstairs resounded to the tune of “The greatest job of all is pollination!” as we practised the songs every day.
The children loved the catchy songs, and “I loved singing the songs” was the most popular answer when we asked the children what they had enjoyed.
The show day arrived, and the children were keen to perform their play for the next three days, and the thought of having to do “real work” was not met with enthusiasm at all! Everyone was very excited to get their costumes on and was very excited to have props such as pollen baskets, wings and antennae.
As the moment had arrived, they left the classroom and headed down to the hall. The moment the lights went down and the music played, Year 2 turned into a hive of busy bees, and all worked together to produce an amazing play. The songs and words were amazing, and more importantly, our play had an important message that bees are important and a crucial part of the world’s balance.
Finally, after a brilliant performance, we all bowed and were applauded, and smiles all round. And as one child said:
“My favourite bit was saying the lines and doing the bowing bit.”
What more is there to a play? Well done, Year 2.
