Wellingborough School’s commitment to education extends far beyond our classrooms, with a recent initiative from our Science departments making a meaningful global impact.
Across the whole school, our staff have been carrying out a clear-out of books and equipment to identify resources that can be given a new purpose. In total, 24 boxes were donated to the Phoenix Resource Centre in Rushden, a charity dedicated to redistributing surplus materials to those who need them most.
The Phoenix Resource Centre focuses on reducing waste by repurposing items that might otherwise go to landfill, ensuring they can be reused in a meaningful way. Through its extensive network, the charity supports projects both locally and internationally, sending educational resources and equipment to communities across the world.
Wellingborough’s donations will travel to schools in Ghana or Somaliland, where they will support children’s learning and help enhance educational opportunities. By extending the life of these resources, the donation not only supports education overseas but also promotes sustainability and responsible use.
We are incredibly grateful to our Science technicians, who carefully organised and prepared the materials for donation, ensuring everything was ready for its next chapter. We would also like to thank our Estates team for their support in transporting the boxes to the Phoenix Resource Centre, making the initiative possible.
This whole-school effort demonstrates how small actions can create meaningful change.
