As part of the final week of term, pupils across Wellingborough School Prep School participated in a Community Day, organised by our Wellbeing Team. The day was designed to help the pupils understand the importance of community and social responsibility through a range of engaging activities.
The day began with a whole Prep School assembly, bringing together pupils from Nursery to Year 6 to reflect on what it means to be part of a community and how even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.
For our Upper Prep pupils, Community Day provided opportunities to explore important social issues and connect with local organisations. Year 4 visited Westlands Care Home, where they learned about dementia and the value of intergenerational relationships, while Year 5 and Year 6 pupils spent time at the Daylight Centre to develop a greater understanding of homelessness and the support available within our local area. Year 3 pupils explored the role of young carers, learning about the challenges some young people face while supporting family members at home.
Other sessions throughout the day focused on topics such as bereavement, emotional wellbeing and the strength of the Wellingborough School community. Through thoughtful discussions, creative activities and opportunities for reflection, pupils developed a deeper understanding of empathy, resilience and supporting others.
Meanwhile, in Lower Prep, pupils from Nursery to Year 2 explored the theme of community through a variety of engaging activities. They created opportunities to thank members of their community, enjoyed story sessions, learnt about the many people who help us every day by meeting staff from across the School, and recognised the contributions of those who help our community thrive. Pupils also worked together to create a Kindness Rock Garden, celebrating the positive impact that simple acts of care and consideration can have on others.
One of the most valuable aspects of the day was the opportunity for pupils to step outside their usual routines and engage with real-world issues in a meaningful way. Through conversations with members of the community, they were encouraged to think about how they can contribute positively to the communities around them.
Community Day provided pupils with valuable opportunities to learn about the organisations and initiatives that support the local community. We are grateful to our Wellbeing Team, staff, local organisations and community partners for their support in making the day possible. Our Prep School pupils were able to develop a greater appreciation of their community and the importance of supporting others.
