Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

Wellingborough School’s Science and Technology Fair

Wellingborough School marked British Science Week with our annual Science and Technology fair. Students explored science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through a range of creative projects and demonstrations, led by the Year 12 STEM pupils. The event was a huge success, with over 300 students attending, including many visitors from local primary schools who came along to see the experiments and displays.

We were also delighted to welcome RaptorXotics, who brought along a fascinating exhibit of animals and insects, giving students a unique opportunity to learn more about a range of species up close. In addition, BAM Construction showcased an exciting piece of cutting-edge technology with their Boston Dynamics robot dog, which captured a great deal of interest and enthusiasm. We are very grateful to both organisations for giving their time to support the event and for helping to create such an engaging and memorable experience for our students.

“Throughout the fair there were many different activities and demonstrations, covering topics from animals such as snakes, hedgehogs, and giant snails to a variety of exciting science experiments like volcanoes.

One of the most popular demonstrations was the coke and mentos experiment, where mentos were dropped into a bottle of coke, causing a dramatic fizzy eruption shooting into the air. This experiment showed how gases can rapidly escape from liquids during certain reactions, and it definitely caught everyone’s attention.

Overall, the STEM fair was a fantastic event that brought together students from different schools to share their curiosity and excitement about science. It was a great opportunity for everyone to learn something new, see science in inaction, and discover just how interesting STEM can be.”

Friday 13th March also marked Techognition Day – a time to recognise the invaluable contribution of our technical team. We are fortunate to benefit from the support of Mrs Whittaker (Biology), Mrs Scott (Chemistry), and Mrs Fairhurst (Physics).

The team played a key role in providing the practical elements for the stands and stalls at the Science and Technology Fair, as well as supporting the delivery of practical work in our science lessons every day.

We extend our sincere thanks to them for their dedication and the vital work they carry out behind the scenes.
