We are proud to share that Wellingborough School has achieved the North Northamptonshire Healthy Schools Bronze Award. This is a fantastic milestone, as it recognises our whole-school commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
The award celebrates how our school community works together. All of this is guided by evidence-based standards designed specifically for North Northamptonshire. The award reflects our belief that pupils thrive where they feel supported, active and confident and are encouraged to make positive choices.
A Whole School Commitment to Health and Wellbeing
Achieving the Healthy Schools Bronze Award is a proud moment for Wellingborough School. It highlights the strength of our work across four key areas: mental health and wellbeing, physical activity, healthy eating and PSHE.
“The award highlights the positive and nurturing environment we aim to create every day. It is a place where pupils feel safe, valued and supported to look after both their physical and emotional wellbeing. It also celebrates the collective efforts of staff, pupils and the wider school community in embedding wellbeing into daily school life, both inside and outside the classroom.” – Chelsea Buswell, Wellbeing Manager
Why the Healthy Schools Award Matters to Us
Working towards the Healthy Schools Award was an important step for the school. It helped strengthen our whole school approach to wellbeing. We believe that healthy and happy children are better able to learn. They are more resilient and better equipped to flourish both academically and personally.
By focusing on mental health and wellbeing, physical activity, healthy eating and PSHE, we provide a well-rounded education. This approach supports pupils’ overall development. The award gave us a clear framework to review what we already do well. It also helped ensure our provision continues to meet the changing needs of our pupils and equips them with lifelong skills.
Our Journey to Achieving the Bronze Award
The journey to the Bronze Award involved completing a detailed self-assessment and gathering evidence to demonstrate how the school meets specific criteria across the four key focus areas.
We reviewed our policies, curriculum and everyday practices to ensure that wellbeing is meaningfully embedded throughout school life. Evidence was gathered from a wide range of sources, highlighting our strengths and helping us identify areas for further development. Our pupils were also given opportunities to share their views, ensuring their voices helped shape a healthy and supportive environment for all.
Looking Ahead to the Next Stage of Our Healthy Schools Journey
Achieving the Healthy Schools Bronze Award is a significant achievement and just the beginning of our journey. We remain committed to continually developing our wellbeing provision and building on this strong foundation as we strive to create a healthier and happier school community for everyone.
