South Africa Sports Tour 2025

Adventure, Culture and Competition Across South Africa

Our 2025 South Africa Sports Tour was a celebration of sport, culture, and unforgettable experiences. From our first match to the final excursion, pupils embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and spirit.

Tour Kickoff in South Africa

The tour began with a competitive rugby match against the Wasps Rugby Club. It was a closely contested game, with our boys showing great determination and narrowly losing with a final score of 19 to 13.

After the match, the team enjoyed a traditional South African meal featuring Babotie and Malva pudding. It was a delicious way to end the day, filled with laughter, good food, and lifelong memories.

A Cultural Experience at Lesedi

Next, our pupils visited Lesedi Cultural Village in the Cradle of Humankind. They took part in African storytelling, dance, and tribal traditions. The warm welcome and vibrant atmosphere made it a truly memorable experience.

Giving Back at the Winnie Mabaso Foundation

One of the most meaningful days of the tour was spent at the Winnie Mabaso Foundation, a charity that supports vulnerable children and families affected by HIV.

Pupils joined activities such as gardening, reading, sewing, and painting a Mandela mural. Although rain cancelled football and netball, a spontaneous dance session lifted everyone’s spirits.

The day ended with pupils helping to serve over 1,000 meals to the local community during the Friday feed, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

Safari at Mabula Game Lodge

Pupils and staff explored the wild beauty of South Africa on game drives at Mabula Game Lodge. They spotted incredible wildlife and took in the stunning scenery. The safari gave them a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Surfing and Sports in Muizenberg

On 21 July, pupils learned to surf at Surf Emporium in Muizenberg. With support from the instructors, many were soon riding the waves.

Later in the day, they played rugby and hockey matches against Fish Hoek High School, showing strong performances and excellent teamwork.

Ascending Table Mountain

On Tuesday 22 July, our pupils took to the skies with a cable car ride up Table Mountain. Under clear, sunny skies, they enjoyed breathtaking views across Cape Town. Visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World was a highlight of the tour and an experience they won’t forget.

Match Day in Cape Town

Our pupils faced Groote Schuur School in a series of football and netball matches, with two games played in each sport. The teams came away with two wins and two losses. It was an exciting afternoon filled with skill, energy, and teamwork.

Exploring the Cape

Pupils and staff spent a breathtaking day exploring the Cape, a region known for its dramatic coastline and rich biodiversity. They visited Seal Island, drove along the scenic Chapman’s Peak, and met penguins at Boulders Beach. From coastal views to close-up wildlife encounters, the day was full of adventure and appreciation for South Africa’s natural beauty.

A Visit to Kayamandi

As part of the trip, pupils visited Kayamandi Township near Stellenbosch. They learned about local culture and connected with the community. It was a powerful and eye-opening experience that left a lasting impression.

Final Hockey Fixture Against Bloemhof

Our girls played their final hockey match against Bloemhof High School for Girls. After conceding four goals in the first half, they came back strong, keeping a clean sheet in the second. The team showed incredible determination, making it a proud performance and a fitting end to a tour filled with growth, grit, and unforgettable moments.

Final Football and Netball Fixtures

To round off the sporting side of the tour, pupils played their final football and netball matches against Bridge House School.

Both football teams gave it their all in two competitive games. The B team secured a well-earned win, while the A team narrowly missed out in a close match.

It was a strong finish that reflected the determination and teamwork shown throughout the tour.

Final Evening

To end the tour, pupils watched Western Province take on the Blue Bulls at Cape Town Stadium.

After the match, they gathered for a final dinner, reflecting on a week filled with sport, culture, and connection.
