Year 7 enjoyed a fascinating day at Burghley House last week to aid independent learning in their History topic of The Tudors. Built by William Cecil, Elizabeth I’s Secretary of State and Chief Minister, the Tudor kitchen and the hammer-beam roof in the Great Hall are brilliantly immersive.
Pupils enjoyed a carousel of activities, including a workshop on Tudor dining, a guided tour of the House and kitchen and a booklet to complete about why Cecil was so important in creating the belief of ‘Gloriana’ during Elizabeth’s reign. Year 7 were a delight to be with, being that lovely mix of engaged, reflective, enthusiastic and highly amusing company.
